As part of our demonstration of resource sharing across compartments (using Compute definitions), this scenario illustrates how one may share resources (a Compute instance) created by HR with Sales for reuse.

Each OCI tenant is assigned its default root compartment, administered by any member of the Administrators Group.

Once created, administrators can be set to these compartments to make subcompartments and give delegate administrators for them. OCI supports six levels of compartment hierarchy with full authority over offspring compartments controlled by their parent compartment administrator.

Be mindful when working with compartments that some OCI resources, such as compute instances, databases, and virtual cloud networks, can only be accessed in their original creation region - thus making them regional in scope.

  5. Archive object storage can store data that is rarely accessed for a long time at a low cost.
